Monroe Louisiana will be the host of Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, and the 17th annual Louisiana Seafood cook-off Friday May 31st. Lieutenant Governor Nungesser says the change of location for the cook-off is long overdue.

Nungesser praised local chef Cory Bahr saying, " Cory Bahr who is a great chef from Louisiana has really made a pledge to bring it to North Louisiana, and it's the right thing to do we should be moving it all over Louisiana."

The cook-off gives 12 of the best chefs in the state one hour to prepare their best dish using Louisiana seafood for the chance to be crowned the King or Queen of Louisiana Seafood. Nungesser says the publicity the cook-off brings is good for both the state and the chefs bringing recognition to their restaurants and hometowns.

Normally held in south Louisiana the cook off will take place on the campus of the University of Louisiana Monroe. Nungesser states, "it'll be a sold out crowd so we are excited." as the event is completely sold out for the first time in its history.

The winner of the cook-off will represent Louisiana in the Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans in August.
