The University of Louisiana Monroe has installed a new sculpture in conjunction with the remodeling of Sandel Hall . The sculpture was created and installed by artist Beth Nybeck. Entitled Here We Go, the sculpture incorporates handwritten responses by ULM students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. Participants responded to the prompt “I am going to ______” and were encouraged to fill in the blank with their future aspirations or goals striving towards personal, professional, or global impact. Nybeck collected the responses in 2022 and 2023.
The piece has been made possible thanks to the state’s Percent for Art Program. For more than twenty years, the Percent for Art law has reserved one percent of state money to be invested in public art when a state agency spends more than $2 million in state funds on newly constructed or renovated state buildings. After a call for art, a committee of university stakeholders selected the artist from a pool of 64 applicants.
