BATON ROUGE, La. – Volunteers with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (Louisiana Blue) and Healthy Blue Louisiana will give more than 1,000 new coats to children at Bossier City, Shreveport and Monroe schools this week.
The events are sponsored through Operation Warm, a national nonprofit dedicated to providing warmth, confidence and hope for children in need. Since 2018, Louisiana Blue has partnered with Operation Warm to give out more than 7,000 coats and 600 pairs of shoes to children in North Louisiana. Last week, volunteers gave out more than 200 pairs of new shoes at an Operation Warm event in Rayne.
At this week’s events, students will work with volunteers to try on and pick out new coats they will get to take home. This will make sure they have warm clothing for the coming winter months without their families having to purchase coats.
Media are invited to attend the Operation Warm events at the times listed below to take photos and video or interview representatives from the partner organizations. Media must comply with all school guidelines on whether and how children can be included in event footage.
