Cory Crowe

Monroe, LA – The City of Monroe would like to announce the appointment of Mayor Friday Ellis to the Southern Rail Commission (SRC) by Governor Jeff Landry, a significant milestone for both Monroe and the broader region as efforts continue to advance rail connectivity and economic development in Louisiana. The appointment underscores Mayor Ellis's dedication to enhancing transportation infrastructure and bolstering regional partnerships.

“Mayor Friday Ellis has the background and leadership necessary to ensure success for the Southern Rail Commission. I look forward to his great leadership in this position,” said Governor Jeff Landry.

The Southern Rail Commission brings together public and private partners to drive progress on rail initiatives across the Southeast. Its goal is to create safe, reliable, and efficient ways to move people and goods, boosting economic growth along rail corridors, offering more transportation options, and supporting emergency evacuation routes. By focusing on expanding passenger rail services and improving freight rail efficiency, the SRC is shaping the future of transportation in our region.

"We are thrilled to have Mayor Ellis on the Commission," said Knox Ross, Chairman of the Southern Rail Commission. "His leadership and vision in making substantive progress in bringing Amtrak to the I-20 Corridor will be of immense value to our work. We thank Governor Landry for his appointment."

Mayor Ellis expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, emphasizing the importance of expanding rail access to benefit the communities along the I-20 Corridor. “It is an honor to join the Southern Rail Commission at such a transformative time in our City. I look forward to serving on this regional board alongside Governor Landry, Chairman Ross, and the entire Commission to make the I-20 passenger rail vision a reality.”
