The University of Louisiana Monroe Concert Choir is thrilled to announce its upcoming concert, “Words & Music,” scheduled for Tuesday, March 11th, at 7:30 PM. The performance will take place at Parkview Baptist Church, located in Monroe. This event promises to be a captivating exploration of the intricate relationship between text and music within the choral art form.
Under the direction of Dr. Carlton Kilpatrick, who is making his debut as the Interim Director of Choral Activities, the concert will showcase an array of musical works that beautifully intertwine with evocative poetry. Kilpatrick’s vision for the choir emphasizes the profound emotional resonance that emerges when words and music converge, creating a truly memorable experience for the audience.
The program will feature an impressive lineup of talented faculty members: Justin Havard on piano, Richard Seiler on organ, and Sandra Lunte on flute. Together, they will bring to life an eclectic choice of compositions by celebrated composers such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Jing Ling Tam, and Elaine Hagenberg. Each piece has been thoughtfully chosen to complement the rich literary sources from which they draw inspiration, including timeless poetry from the Psalms, the works of William Shakespeare, and the evocative verses of Sara Teasdale, among others.
“Words & Music” not only highlights the choir’s dedication to artistic excellence but also serves as a celebration of the power of collaboration among musicians and the written word. This concert is a perfect opportunity for community members and music enthusiasts to immerse themselves in an evening filled with beauty, emotion, and creativity.
