A Monroe police officer reported hearing gunshots while on patrol close to DeSiard St. and Warhawk Way. Just a moment later, the officer was called to Bon Aire Drive in reference to a gunman.
According to the police, he located Moya Ellis nearby and handcuffed her. The arrest affidavit states that Ellis acknowledged carrying a firearm.
According to the police, Ellis told him that she attempted to steal three cars and then try to flee to California. Ellis stated in the arrest affidavit that she shot the windows out of two of the cars and then attempted to drive them. Ellis acknowledged shooting at least four times on school property and knowing she was on ULM premises, according to the officer.
Ellis acknowledged using a glass pipe to use methamphetamine, according to the officer who discovered it on her. Ellis acknowledged that she still had methamphetamine in her backpack, the officer added.
Ellis was arrested on the following charges:
- One count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instruments
- One count of carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon on school property, at school-sponsored functions, or firearm-free zone
- Three counts of aggravated criminal damage to property
- Three counts of theft of a motor vehicle
- One count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, schedule III
- One count of prohibited acts; drug paraphernalia
