Though forecasters are predicting a below average hurricane season, state officials are urging residents to be prepared in the event of severe weather.
"Even if the number is low, you can have just one storm that creates a big problem for Louisiana," says Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness spokesperson Mike Steele.
The message each year is "Get A Game Plan". State officials encourage citizens to have a list of hurricane supplies and other critical information in case a storm approaches Louisiana's coast. Steele says it is vitally important to know what steps to take should an evacuation be called in a threat of severe weather. "Think about things like prescription medications, insurance papers, and birth certificates, if the order to evacuate is given," says Steele.
