Army Cuts Could Impact Fort Polk

The U.S. Army is expected to announce cuts that could significantly affect central Louisiana's Fort Polk.

An official announcement is expected Thursday.

Army officials, under a mandate to cut at least 40,000 troops and personnel, are considering cuts at 30 bases, including Fort Polk.

If the brigade stationed at Fort Polk is eliminated, the base would lose more than half its military population, which stakeholders say would have a significant effect on the central Louisiana economy and a devastating impact on the surrounding communities in Vernon Parish.
