The storm could reach Monroe by Thursday.

A tropical wave in the Gulf of Mexico has many Louisianans worried. Invest 93L has a 80% chance of growing into a tropical depression or tropical storm in the next 5 days and an 80% chance in the next 48 hours.  The storm would be named Cindy if it develops.

Bayoustateweather.com meteorologist Don Wheeler says we need to keep an eye on this system.

“Should the storm continue on its present track it will be off the Louisiana coast Wednesday morning.”

Wheeler thinks the storm will probably develop into a tropical storm and could be over north Louisiana on Thursday.  He thinks this will mainly be a rain event for our area.  The NWS office in New Orleans says South Louisiana could see isolated totals of up to 16 inches.

Up to 16 inches of rain could fall on south Louisiana.

Neal Brown at the Ouachita Parish Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness says they are watching the storm and consulting with GOHSEP offices in coastal communities.  He says GOHSEP will ramp up preparation if the storm strengthens to Tropical Storm of Hurricane Status.

Brown said the most common problem with storms is the loss of electricity.  Brown says everyone should always have 3 days of food, water and medicine available.
