Are You Ready For Some Football?

ULM Football returns with a full slate of talent and plans to win

One of America's favorite seasons is steadily approaching, and will be here in a couple of weeks. Football season is a time of year where fans from all over come together to root for their favorite teams and root against their most hated rival.

The Warhawks of the University of Louisiana Monroe are looking to rebound from a less than spectacular season. "The expectation is to either win conference or tie for first," according to Junior Wide Receiver Xavier Brown. ULM has not won a Sunbelt Conference championship since 2005; however, with the majority of the team's key pieces returning, this year could be full of upsides.

Head Coach Matt Viator thinks the team will have a complete 180 in his second year. “My philosophy is the offense has to beat the defense,” says Viator. With the addition of running back Derrick Gore, an Alabama transfer, the offense beating the defense is very likely.

“With my last year of eligibility I would like to help the team get to a bowl game and ultimately win the game,” says Senior Wide Receiver Brian Williams. ULM has not been to a bowl since 2012 when the team played OHIO in the Independence bowl.

Last season ULM saw itself having one of the weaker offenses in the conference, ranking 8th. With Devin Jackson, Jr. being back at full force this season, fans can expect the offensive line to open up a few more holes for the rushing attack.

The first game of the season is against Memphis on Thursday, August 31, and the first home game will be against Southern Mississippi on Saturday, September 16.
