An unknown man who was walking on the Interstate died last night after being struck by a vehicle in Madison Parish.
Shortly before 3:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017, Louisiana State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 just west of Tallulah. The further investigation revealed just prior to the crash, the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a call in reference to an unknown male subject walking east in the travel lanes of Interstate 20.
The man was struck by a Madison Parish Sheriff that was dispatched to the call. After impact the Sheriff's vehicle ran off into the median, struck the cable barriers and came to a stop.
The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner’s Office. The Sheriff’s Deputy was not injured during the crash.
At the time of the crash the pedestrian was wearing black shorts and a dark color shirt. This crash occurred in open country with no nearby lighting. A wide shoulder was available to walk upon.
Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
