Tomorrow is the last day to early vote for the November 18th election and early voting locations are closed today in observance of Veteran’s Day. Secretary of State Tom Schedler says in the last days of early voting, the number of residents who cast a ballot exceeded his original expectation of around 10-percent.
Schedler says this is still an alarming low voter turnout. He says about 69-percent of voters in the Bayou State cast a ballot last year in the presidential election, higher than the national average.
Aside from the statewide State Treasurer’s election, the New Orleans mayoral race is also on the ballot. Schedler says voters in the Crescent City made up 19-percent of the state’s turnout to put LaToya Contrell and Desiree Charbonnet in the runoff.
