A parent group from Bowling Green School, in Franklinton , is trying to raise money through a gun raffle, for a program to keep seniors safe at graduation. This has caused many controversial reactions due to the recent Florida shooting which left 17 dead at the hands of a 19-year-old with an AR-15.

Executive Director of the Louisiana Violence Reduction Coalition Victoria Coy expressed her concern about the group of parents saying "although they are trying to act responsibly, they can come up with more creative ways to raise the money'. That she "just cannot get behind putting more weapons in the community".

Gun shop owner Brent Hoggatt, who is helping with the raffle, says it will raise a significant amount of money which will be given back to the students so they can afford a safe and fun filled graduation night.

30 guns are to be given away, including two AR-15s, which will produce about $30,000 total. Hoggatt says people shouldn’t worry about the rifles as it is a completely legal semi-automatic weapon.
