NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) — Authorities say two separate boaters have died in Louisiana.

News outlets report the bodies of 58-year-old Leonard Norbert and 66-year-old Milton B. Gomez were both recovered Saturday.

Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Maj. Wendell Raborn says Norbert and his boat were found in the Atchafalaya Basin. A search for the New Iberia man had begun when he didn't check in during a fishing tournament he was participating in.

The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says in a statement that Gomez was discovered in Tangipahoa Parish near where the Tangipahoa River feeds into Lake Pontchartrain. Officials had been told about an unmanned 17-foot (5-meter) vessel in the lake. Authorities are unsure how the Ponchatoula man entered the water.

Coroners in Iberia and Tangipahoa parishes will determine what caused the deaths.
