A former Louisiana prison warden and his ex-wife have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a corruption scheme.
The Alexandria Town Talk reports former Avoyelles Correctional Center Warden Nathan Cain II has been sentenced to 38 months for wire fraud. U.S. Attorney David Joseph announced Monday that Cain's ex-wife, former prison business manager Tonia Bandy Cain, was sentenced to eight months for conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
The two used the state prisons' bank cards to buy Christmas decor, gun parts and other personal items, and misrepresented them as official purchases.
Nathan Cain also commissioned the construction of a house on prison grounds for himself, and put construction costs on the bank cards.
The Cains were also ordered to pay $42,500 in restitution.
