Louisiana state troopers say they had to use a Taser to take a fellow police officer into custody on a driving while intoxicated charge.

Troopers say an officer pulled over a driver for speeding and an improper lane change on state Highway 42 in Baton Rouge around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Troopers say 48-year-old State Police Lt. Sheldon Perkins cooperated with sobriety tests, but then attacked the trooper who pulled him over when he was told he was being arrested.

Troopers said in a news release Perkins was taken into custody after being shocked with the Taser and was charged with battery on a police officer and resisting arrest along with the DWI and traffic charges.

Perkins was placed on administrative leave. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
