A 31-year-old Louisiana man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 10 in Slidell.

Louisiana State Police say troopers responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on the I-10 westbound entrance ramp from U.S. 190. The victim was identified as Chad Hart, of Covington.

Troopers say Hart was walking in the middle of the ramp, when a 2004 Ford Expedition hit him. Hart was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The SUV's driver, 42-year-old Shane Crawford, of Slidell, was not hurt.

Troopers say Crawford provided a breath sample, which registered over the state's legal blood-alcohol limit of .08%. Blood samples also were collected.

He faces a vehicular homicide charge. It's unknown if he has an attorney.
