Crime is down in Monroe according to the latest FBI numbers for 2018. Violent Crime in Monroe fell 38 percent compared to 2017.
Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo announced the latest numbers at a press conference on Tuesday.
Mayo said, " Our homicides are already ahead of our 2018 numbers with two and a half months to go."
Police Chief Eugene Ellis was also at the press conference and stressed that there is still work to be done for the city.
"These homicides, these murders, senseless violence, we're going to make sure it stops," Ellis said.
Ellis announced that Monroe Police will have a hightened police force during peak crime times, and will add six additional officers during those times.
