The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole, will graduate 17 new agents to supervise offenders in probation and parole districts across Louisiana. The graduation and swearing in ceremony will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Louisiana State Police Training Auditorium, 7901 Independence Boulevard, Baton Rouge.
The Department’s P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training) Academy began in August and agents will complete testing the morning of graduation. The last week has been spent learning issues specific to their jobs as probation and parole officers.
Louisiana’s approximately 640 probation and parole agents are critical links between law enforcement, the court system, and public safety. Agents supervise approximately 59,000 inmates released from prison into communities statewide on probation, parole, diminution of sentence or medical furlough.
The new agents will be assigned to 13 of the 21 district offices statewide. The districts include Alexandria, Amite, Baton Rouge, Donaldsonville, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, Natchitoches, New Orleans, Shreveport, Thibodaux, Ville Platte, and West Baton Rouge.
