On Monday, December 2, the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM)-Louisiana celebrated the arrival of two mobile medical units. A ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by the Monroe and West Monroe-West Ouachita Chambers of Commerce, commemorated this milestone, which has been over two years in the making.
The mobile units, developed through a partnership with the Ouachita Parish Police Jury, are fully equipped with private exam rooms, diagnostic tools, phlebotomy stations, and wheelchair-accessible features. These state-of-the-art vehicles will provide essential services such as primary care, immunizations, geriatric care, and disaster relief to underserved communities in Ouachita Parish and beyond.
Beyond healthcare delivery, the units will serve as educational platforms for VCOM-Louisiana medical students, offering hands-on experience in community engagement and emergency response efforts. Mark Sanders, DO, Dean of VCOM-Louisiana, emphasized the institution's commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes through innovation and collaboration.
The units will be housed at the Ouachita Parish GOHSEP Office and used throughout the region.
