Louisiana Old Governor’s Mansion to participate in first free Sunday

BATON ROUGE, La. — Secretary of State Nancy Landry is pleased to announce that the Old Governor's Mansion will participate in Baton Rouge’s First Free Sunday initiative. The Old Governor’s Mansion will join other museums across the city and open its doors to the public, free of charge, on the first Sunday of every month, starting on March 2 from 12 to 4 p.m. Visitors are also invited to visit the mansion on Feb. 24 and 25 in recognition of Museums Advocacy Day.

To commemorate participation in the First Free Sunday initiative, the Old Governor’s Mansion is collaborating with local artist Ashtin McNicoll, who specializes in folksy ink-on paint works. McNicoll, whose work is marketed as “Made to Paint,” is creating a special art piece for the mansion that will reflect the rich history and culture of the area.

“The Old Governor's Mansion is thrilled to collaborate with Ashtin McNicoll, as her unique style captures the essence of Baton Rouge's vibrant community,” said Dr. Sinella Aghasi, Director of the Old Governor’s Mansion. “This stunning work will be unveiled in the mansion’s solarium on March 2. We are excited to open our doors as part of First Free Sunday.”

Admission to the Old Governor’s Mansion is free, and the museum is open 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 12 to 4 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month. For more information about the Old Governor’s Mansion, visit www.laogm.org or call 225-342-9778.
