BATON ROUGE, La. – Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation announced the opening of the application period for Historic Preservation and Certified Local Government grants for fiscal year 2025-26. The program is funded by the National Park Service through the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Letters of Interest are currently being accepted as a first step for potential applicants seeking guidance through the process. Though not required, the letters are encouraged and must be submitted by April 21, 2025, to Nicole Hobson-Morris at nmorris@crt.la.gov.

“There is no doubt our culture is a strong economic engine for Louisiana,” Nungesser said. “We must prioritize preserving our heritage and the legacy of those who came before us for future generations.”

The Division of Historic Preservation will prioritize projects aligned with Goal 4 of the state’s preservation plan, focusing on surveys in rural areas and culturally diverse communities, including tribal areas. Special consideration will also be given to resurveys of historic districts recorded before 1990 and new survey work with potential for future National Register nominations.

Examples of eligible projects include:

Surveying rural National Register districts;
Updating Louisiana Historic Resource Inventory forms;
Nominating previously surveyed rural areas for the National Register.

Applications open May 2, 2025, at 10 a.m. and close May 30, 2025, at 10 p.m. Awards will be announced in August. Grants typically range from $3,000 to $80,000, with a performance period from Oct. 1, 2025, to Sept. 15, 2026.

Grants are reimbursable and require a 40% local match.
