Swimming pools at four state parks in north Louisiana will not open this summer. Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne has announced swimming pools at Chemin-A-Haut, Lake Bisteneau, Lake D'Arbonne, and North Toledo Bend will be closed for the season.
"Those pools won't be open," says Dardenne, "but, alot of parks allow for swimming at beach sites, that won't be affected." The closure comes due to a round of mid-year budget cuts that impacted the Office of State Parks.
Dardenne says both operation and maintenance costs are saved with keeping the pools closed. He says for those groups or individuals who had reserved pools at any of the four parks can call and cancel reservations.
Dardenne says as legislators prepare to grapple with a significant budget shortfall for next fiscal year, there's no indication at this point to whether those pools will open in 2016.
