New Orleans is giving furloughed federal workers a break on late property tax bills, by waiving late fees.
A news release Wednesday said that to qualify, furloughed workers should bring their federal ID and their most recent pay stub to City Hall when they come for their next payment.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell says the shutdown affects thousands of residents, and this is one way to help ease their burden.
Federal offices with employees in New Orleans include the Homeland Security, Commerce, State and Veterans Affairs departments, as well as the Social Security Administration.
