On Wednesday, February 9, Women Take FLIGHT will host a virtual workshop on assertiveness conducted by Vivian Harte.
Vivian Harte is the co-author of Self-Esteem for Dummies in the Dummies series. She has been teaching online courses on assertiveness and self-confidence since 2003. She has also coached individuals, from high school girls to men and women in their 50s, on developing their self-confidence on a personal level and in the workplace. Vivian has a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Indiana University and a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Arizona.
She will cover topics such as the difference between aggressive, passive, and assertive personalities, passive language that needs to be eliminated, assertive "I" statements to express oneself, setting boundaries (including ways to say no), making a requesting "I" statement to request a change in behavior of a co-worker, assertive body language, and dealing assertively with co-workers and a boss.
Although the session will be conducted over Zoom, we will have a watch party on the 7th floor of the library where the event will have snacks and be able to interact with each other in person rather than in breakout rooms. But the virtual option gives you the chance to take advantage of this workshop the way it works best for you. Snacks will be ready at 12:30 pm. Programming will start at 1:00 pm and last about 2 hours.
Power Up With Assertiveness is open to ALL ULM staff and faculty. To join us, in person or virtually, please use the link below to register. Links to the session will be emailed on February 7. If you have any questions, contact Leigh Hersey at hersey@ulm.edu or 318-342-1332.
