Mark A. Sanders, DO, JD, MPH, LLM, MS, FACOFP, has been named the new Dean for The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM)’s Louisiana campus.
Sanders has served as the Interim Dean for VCOM-Louisiana since July 1, 2021. Prior to his time as Interim Dean, Sanders held the position of Associate Dean for Curriculum, Assessment and Medical Education for VCOM-Louisiana, a role he had previously held at VCOM’s Auburn campus, as well.
“I have been part of the VCOM-Louisiana family since the beginning and am excited to step into this role,” said Sanders. “It will be an honor to lead our faculty, staff and students as we continue to grow our partnership with ULM and establish a strong foundation for our College’s mission and vision here in Louisiana and across the Delta Region.”
“Dr. Sanders has previously held leadership roles at both VCOM-Auburn and VCOMLouisiana, so it was a natural progression to transition him into the role of Dean for the Louisiana campus,” said Dixie Tooke-Rawlins, DO, FACOFP, President and Provost of VCOM. “His dedication to the students and commitment to our mission will ensure the continued success of our newest campus.”
Sanders received a BA in biology/chemistry from Texas Christian University, a DO from The University of North Texas Health Sciences Center - Fort Worth, a JD from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, an MPH from The University of North Texas Health Sciences Center - Fort Worth, an MS in Clinical Molecular Genetics from Northern Michigan University and an LLM in Elder Law from Stetson University Law. He and his wife, Anada, have three children, Sofia (14), Liam (10), and Emma Grace (8).
