Ruston Community Theatre presents Fiddler on the Roof July 18-21 at the historic Dixie Center for the Arts in downtown Ruston.
Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. with a matinee Sunday at 2 p.m.
The musical features lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, music by Jerry Bock, and book by Joseph Stein. Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, Fiddler is a timeless classic that continues to speak to audience members today.
Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill in them traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.
Director Dee Alexander says, the pit orchestra, cast and crew is made up of many talented individuals not just from Ruston, but across northeast Louisiana.
Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for Students. Tickets can be purchased at www.rctruston.org/tickets.
