The Monroe Symphony League is organizing its fall Book Fair, scheduled for October 5,6,11, and 12. The event will take place at the Book Room, located at 320 North Fourth Street in Monroe. Operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
On the fair's opening day, adults will pay a modest entrance fee of $2, whereas on the subsequent days, entry is free for everyone.
Established in 1972 by five local citizens the Monroe Symphony League is a nonprofit entity dedicated to supporting music and music education, aiming to enhance the Monroe Symphony Orchestra’s activities.
Attendees can explore a broad array of gently used hardcovers and paperbacks across both fiction and non-fiction. This selection encompasses various genres, such as suspense, religion, biographies, cookbooks, humor, and self-help, with most items priced below $2. Beyond books, visitors can also browse magazines, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, sheet music, and an array of household items.
Mark Henderson, a spokesperson for the Symphony League, highlighted the inclusion of coffee table books by local Louisiana authors, some even autographed. While the original price of new coffee table books usually ranges from $30 to $40, those at the Monroe Symphony League fair will be affordably priced, with none exceeding $5 and many available for $1 to $3.
Proceeds from the book fair will support the 2025 Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artists Competition.
