The Friends of Black Bayou National Wildlife Refuge will host its annual Fall Celebration on Saturday, October 19.
This event is free and open to the public, featuring live animals, a nature walk, kayak and canoe trips, and a nature story time.
Wildlife educators, including Dr. Earl from Louisiana Tech University, will be present to share information about native animals, such as the Louisiana Pine Snake, commonly found in the bayou. They will also provide hands-on learning activities.
Plein air art, a French art form focused on outdoor observation and creation, will be showcased at the event. Additionally, the winners of the 2024 Black Bayou NWR photo contest will be announced. Photos submitted by community members throughout the region were evaluated, and winners were selected earlier this month. Throughout the day, there will also be face painting, button making, and games available for attendees.
Clair Roane, Education Director of Friends of Black Bayou, states, "It's a great time to be in nature and explore community opportunities, as well as everything the wildlife refuge has to offer."
The event begins at 9 a.m. with a nature walk and concludes at 2 p.m., offering experiences for the entire family. An additional nature walk will take place at 11 a.m.
