The premiere screening of FREEMAN, an award-winning documentary that shows a snapshot into the life of Charles Freeman Stamper, will take place on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 in Brown Auditorium on the campus of ULM at 7:00 PM. Admission is $5.00 and free for students and faculty with ID.
Charles Stamper, affectionately known as “Freeman”, was a longtime supporter and alumnus of ULM who passed away in October 2023. He received his bachelor's degree from ULM (then Northeast Louisiana State College) in 1968.
After graduating from his beloved alma mater, Freeman enlisted in the US Army and was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal. In 2022, Freeman received the Warhawk Ambassador Award and posthumously awarded the George T. Walker award in 2023.
Freeman, a.k.a. “Stephanny”, was also a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. Freeman was a secretary, a decorated Veteran, an advisor to beauty pageants, an advocate for Gay rights, and an amazing square dancer!
This film captures a life worth living and worth discovering. His was an authentic life. And in the end…he gave it all away to help others. As Freeman said, “I’d give you the dress off my back!”
The premier will begin at 7p.m. in Brown Auditorium on the campus of ULM. Admission is $5 and free for students and faculty with identification. Tickets can be purchased at the door prior to the event.
