If you’ve been around North Louisiana long enough, you’ve heard about Pancake Day. Tomorrow, the tradition continues as the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ouachita presents its 69th annual Pancake Day, where volunteers serve pancakes with a purpose.
Kiwanis of Greater Ouachita is a community service organization dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. President Jana Nelson visits area schools year-round, attending Key Club meetings—a service of Kiwanis—and says, "Because of the work of Kiwanis, children are being trained as leaders in our community."
Tomorrow’s event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the club. Last year’s Pancake Day allowed the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ouachita to donate over $20,000 to children's organizations, scholarships, and nonprofits.
It takes a number of volunteers to put on Pancake Day. A spinning griddle allows for 50 pancakes to be cooked at a time, ensuring they’re served up to perfection.
Pancake Day will be held at First Methodist Church on Loop Road in Monroe. Doors will open at 6:30 a.m., and service will continue all day until 7:00 p.m. Pancake plates cost $10 each, and both dine-in and carry-out options are available. Cash or card will be accepted at the door.
