The Southern Youth Actors' Academy (SYAA) presents Hollywood Holiday, a Christmas cabaret running December 6-15.
This holiday special, featuring student actors ages 8-18, will showcase a theme of beloved Christmas movies, including A Christmas Story, Elf, Home Alone, White Christmas, Christmas Vacation, and others.
Starting with "bare bones," said director Hannah Branson, the script, written by Jay Curtis, was compiled from ideas contributed by the students, with a variety of Christmas movie spoofs. The plot offers a glimpse into the chaos of theater life, as a student wishes to go back in time to the previous week—known as tech week—allowing more time to prepare for the production.
When asked how it all comes together, Branson says, "It takes a village. We couldn't do this show without our tech crew, parent volunteers, and so many others."
The show will run for two weekends, December 6-15.
