State Representative Jay Morris, R-Monroe, describes the Jindal administration's budget proposal as "insane" in an email sent to supporters.
Administration officials told Republican lawmakers last week that Jindal will not shrink certain business tax credits, if those items do not meet requirements recommended by Americans For Tax Reform, a taxpayer advocacy group. Morris says those guidelines include scaling back tax credit inventory, but not approving a cap for film tax credits.
"I don't think that's the best way for the state to resolve it's fiscal problems," Morris said. He also notes the proposal does not address the benefits the entertainment industry receives from the state.
Morris is only the second state legislator to publicly criticize Jindal for caring too much about ATR's views. State Representative Tim Burns, R-Mandeville, blogged that the governor and ATR's recommendations are illogical.
