A bill to approve year-round hunting season on wild hogs passed out of a House committee Wednesday.
The bill is authored by Monroe Representative Katrina Jackson. Jackson says the feral hog issue is becoming more pervasive for northeast Louisiana farmers.
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham testified of the severity of the problem during the committee hearing. "We have the second largest hog problem in the country. You have to kill about 70 percent of them to remain static," said Barham.
Jackson developed the legislation with Ouachita Parish District Attorney Jerry Jones. The measure now goes to the full House for consideration.
