Secretary of State candidate Chris Tyson believes better fiscal responsibility will allow the state to see improvements during elections.
"There's been money spent on litigation, that could have been spent on updating voting equipment and streamlining processes for business," says Tyson, a law professor at Louisiana State University.
He says the current secretary, Tom Schedler, has fought lawsuits over national voting laws that have cost the state over $1.3 million over the past two years. Tyson believes that money could go directly to improving equipment.
Tyson says he would seek to restore operating hours to state museums under the Secretary of State's office. "Initially, helping those museums obtain credentials to broaden funding opportunities," he suggests as a way to work back to resuming normal operations.
Tyson visits Monroe tonight at Restaurant Sage at 6 p.m. He stops by Grambling to attend a prayer breakfast event on Saturday.
