Retired teacher Billye Burns is a candidate in the House District 17 race.
Burns cites her passion for education as a priority on her campaign. "We need to put our children at ease, especially since the introduction of Common Core. I would like to see our education system doing a little less testing and more teaching," she said.
Burns also wants more attention given to healthcare for district residents. A third priority in her campaign is crime prevention. Citing three murders in the district over the past few weeks, Burns says more attention needs to be given to making the area more safe and secure.
