Louisiana Treasurer John M. Schroder reports the first deposit of $48.53 million into the state’s Unclaimed Property Permanent Trust Fund.

Louisiana Treasurer John M. Schroder is urging the passage of federal legislation that will expand the number of Louisiana citizens with disabilities who qualify to possess Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) accounts. This legislation will supplement the Americans with Disabilities Act, which celebrates its anniversary as of July 26, having been signed into law in 1990.

State Treasurer John M. Schroder led Louisiana Cash Management Review Board (CMRB) meeting discussions today, stressing that Louisiana must learn to better harness the benefits of modern technology.

Since 2018, the Louisiana Department of Treasury and Louisiana Department of Revenue have conducted an annual data share to search for updated addresses of Louisiana citizens to return their Unclaimed Property checks directly without them even needing to file a claim. Act 339 of the 2018 Regular Session permits the Louisiana Department of Revenue to share its database of current and correct addresses with the Treasury to return Unclaimed Property. As a result, the Treasury can annually update the addresses on file and clear out a backlog of Unclaimed Property still on the books.
