"The Future is Now" is the theme of the 2018 State of the City address. The address is January 31 at the Monroe Civic Center Arena at 12:15 p.m.

"The Future is Now" is reflected in Mayor Jamie Mayo's goals for the upcoming year. Mayor Mayo is discussing project initiatives that focus on growth, development and bettering the quality of life for the city of Monroe.

The display section, which can be viewed before the address, features new equipment and techniques which benefit the city. "It's kind of a competition among the departments," says Rod Washington, Public Relations and Media Coordinator for the mayor. "We allow them to bring out their 'big-boy toys.'"

Mayor Mayo is speaking about future growth opportunities, as well as the city infrastructure. The mayor and other representatives recently visited Washington D.C. to lobby for more funds to expand the current city water system. Mayor Mayo is also giving information about the new arena facility and the possibility of it becoming a mega-shelter for the city.

The 2018 State of the City address is January 31 at the Monroe Civic Center Arena. Doors open at 11:30, and the address begins at 12:15. For more information, visit the City of Monroe website.
