I-20 Top 20 is Tuesday, May 1 from 6-8 p.m. at La. Tech University Hall. The event is a marketplace of ideas and innovation, as well as a networking opportunity for new or experienced entrepreneurs.
"I-20 Top 20 came about as a realization that the general population in the community is largely unaware of the many innovative and creative things occurring on university campuses such as Tech, ULM, and Grambling," says Director of the Tech Enterprise Center Kathy Wyatt. "We wanted to provide a venue that would allow for people who are new to business development to come together with individuals who have experience. We hope to give them the opportunity to share information, provide encouragement, and inspire each other."
According to Wyatt, I-20 Top 20 allows new entrepreneurs to receive feedback in an open, encouraging environment. The event features ventures and founders who are leading economic growth across north Louisiana and facilitates the formation of relationships between peers and experienced entrepreneurs alike. It is also a chance to connect with other businesses and resources.
Student entrepreneurs at La. Tech are presenting their mobile app concepts. One person has the idea for an app that connects hungry college students with home-cooked meals. A student team is working to develop an app to help young people think about and manage their finances in better ways. According to Wyatt, the app will function similar to a social media website, using peer consultation to help people get started in investing.
