Mayo, Council At Odds Over Budget

courtesy

Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo says if the city council's version of a proposed budget is adopted, it would be 'catastrophic'.

The mayor addressed the council's recommendations in a news conference Monday.  "It's pretty clear the council is not going to accept our budget," says Mayo.  He says his office has not had the time to review the council's proposal completely, but an early check of the item was alarming.

The mayor says if the council votes down his budget and approves their own, he will veto the measure.  Mayo added that if council votes to override a veto, he would not sign off on their proposed budget.
