Catholic Diocese of Shreveport

Pope Frances has appointed a new Bishop to preside over the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Bishop Michael Duca will be transferred from Shreveport, where he’s been for the last ten years. He’s replacing Bishop Robert Muench, who’s held the position since 2002. Duca says he didn’t see it coming, but he’s looking forward to serving the people of Baton Rouge.

"I was completely suprised by this appointment and while I am sad to leave the good people of the Diocese of Shreveport, I immediatley accepted the appointment without reservation", said Duca.

An unrestrained man lost his life this morning after the vehicle he was driving traveled off the road and began to overturn.

Shortly after 5:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 596 just north of Lake Providence. The preliminary investigation revealed a 1999 Lexus SUV, driven by 65-year-old Willie Williams of Lake Providence, was traveling north on LA Hwy 596 when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road. Williams then overcorrected his vehicle, traveled across both lanes, entered a ditch, and began overturning.

Blind Joe Reynolds, who also recorded under the name of Willie Reynolds, was known to have a reputation in the years after losing his sight.

Reynolds moved Lake Providence, continuing to perfect his style of bottleneck slide guitar.  Personally, he was known as a bit of a rogue, who taunted societal norms.  His blindness did not prevent him from fending for himself, as he became known as a crack-shot with a pistol from hearing his target.
