The City of Monroe has announced the establishment of a memorial fund on behalf of the family of Monroe Police Officer Chris Beaudion. He was killed in a single-vehicle car crash early Sunday morning while on duty. Those wishing to make contributions  to the Chris Beaudion Memorial Fund can do so by contacting any Iberia bank location. Beaudion's funeral will be held in his hometown of Natchitoches this Saturday.

Louisiana State Police Troop F is investigating a fatal crash involving an on-duty Officer with the Monroe Police Department.

Police in Louisiana say actor and musician Corey Feldman has been charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license after his tour bus was pulled over for speeding over the weekend.

Mangham, Louisiana, police say they pulled over a recreational vehicle driven by Feldman on Saturday and took him to a police station after discovering his license was suspended. Police say an officer at the station smelled marijuana and the drug was found in the RV following a search.

Police say Feldman was released after paying a fine.

 

Monroe Police Chief Process Narrows Field To 13

The Monroe Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board has ended the application period for those interested in participating in the competitive civil service examination for Monroe Police Chief. Applications to take the exam were accepted between September 16 and October 15, 2017.  A total of 13 candidates have officially signed up to take the exam. The Civil Service Board approved the list of qualified candidates at a 4 pm meeting yesterday at the City of Monroe's Public Safety Center.

The Monroe Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board has received official notice from the Office of the State Examiner for Fire & Civil Service, in Baton Rouge, that a posting period and date has been set for the Monroe Police Department Police Chief Exam.

A team of grief counselors is at David Wade Correctional Center in Homer, Louisiana, following Thursday's prison escape and murder. The Department's Critical Incident Stress Management team is offering counseling to staff, relatives, and offenders.

Thursday afternoon, trusty 39 year-old Deltra Henderson escaped from the prison, during which time he allegedly killed the 18 year-old daughter of a David Wade Correctional Center employee who lived on prison property. Out of respect for the family, her name is not being released at this time. 

A car fleeing Louisiana State Police troopers has crashed in New Orleans, killing a 2-year-old girl and a man who were thrown from the vehicle. Police say a third man killed himself at the scene. 

Trooper Melissa Matey said the chase began Wednesday afternoon in downtown New Orleans when troopers noted a car with stolen license plates. It ended in eastern New Orleans when the car struck another vehicle, veered off the road and crashed into a fence.

Matey did not release the names of the deceased.

 Authorities are trying to determine how a 17-month-old girl wound up in a road where she was struck and killed by a truck.

The girl was struck Monday afternoon in St. Tammany Parish, while the toddler was visiting her grandmother's home in the Slidell area.

St. Tammany Parish sheriff's Capt. Daniel Seuzeneau said investigators were not yet sure how the toddler wound up in the path of oncoming traffic.

Police have made an arrest in a hit and run accident that occurred on Arkansas Road in West Monroe on Sunday. Police were searching for a S-type Jaguar  involved in the incident.

A vehicle matching the description was located  by police at 123 Lakeside Drive in West Monroe, with damage to the hood and windshield. Police contacted 46 year-old  Ashley Davis Owens of West Monroe. Police reports say Owens admitted to driving the vehicle and hitting something but says she did not know what she hit. 

OPSO Investigators Arrest Suspect in Theft

Ouachita Parish Investigators have arrested Calvin E. Braswell, Jr. after issuing a search warrant for his residence on Monday.

The search warrant has led to the recovery of several reported previously stolen items and illegal narcotics.

He was also previously arrested in August for possession of stolen items after deputies recovered a stolen Airstream trailer from his residence.

Braswell is alleged to have stolen firearms, lawn equipment and other items.

He has been booked in OCC. The investigation continues and more charges are expected.
