ULM Athletic Director Ready To W-I-N

The University of Louisiana Monroe’s new athletic director told supporters Thursday he intends to lead the program to success on the field, but not at the cost of giving up principles.Nick Floyd was introduced as the new AD at a news conference attended by reporters, ULM community supporters and members of the faculty and staff.ULM President Dr. Nick J. Bruno introduced Floyd to the crowd at the conference center at the university’s library.

The University of Louisiana Monroe welcomes the world-famous Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps for a day of rehearsal and a performance of its competition show on Tuesday, July 25. 

Based in Casper, Wyo., Troopers is a founding member of Drum Corps International, one of the largest organizers of youth activities in the world. The corps members are high school and college musicians.

 In the summer, the Troopers travel to competitive shows and camps throughout the country. The stop in Monroe is on the way to a competition in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Wednesday.

ULM, Miss. College Plan Dual JD/MPA Program

The University of Louisiana at Monroe and Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., have entered into an agreement that would provide an opportunity for students to attend both institutions concurrently in pursuit of both a Juris Doctorate (JD) and a Master of Public Administration (MPA).

Students would apply separately to each institution, and receive the MPA from ULM and the JD from MC.

As part of the arrangement, students could apply up to six semester hours from the MPA toward their JD degree, and up to 12 hours from their JD toward their MPA degree.

Swearingens Establish Endowed Professorship at ULM

Dr. Lawson and Mrs. Sharon Swearingen have established an Endowed Professorship in Political Science at the University of Louisiana Monroe, funded by a $60,000 contribution.

The announcement of the Swearingens’ legacy was made Tuesday at the ULM Library, which was constructed under Swearingen’s tenure as university president from 1991 to 2001.

ULM SOAR Campaign Reaches Seventy Percent Threshold

The University of Louisiana Monroe Foundation, ULM Athletic Foundation, and ULM Alumni Association announced that the SOAR Campaign had reached its 70% threshold.

The goal was announced at a celebration in Scott Plaza featuring faculty, students, and staff with ULM’s Sound of Today and Cheerleaders

A doomsday situation could be just around the corner for North Louisiana and South Arkansas.  The Ouachita River could be defunded by the Corp of Engineers because of a lack of barge traffic.

Terry Baugh of the Ouachita Port says, “We are one pen swipe from disaster.”

Soccer player Mia Hamm and artistic gymnast Shawn Johnson, will share their unique stories at the University of Louisiana Monroe as part of this year’s Lyceum Series held on Thursday, March 9 at 7 p.m. in ULM’s Brown Auditorium. Hamm and Johnson are both retired after outstanding professional careers, with seven Olympic medals between the two of them.

The University of Louisiana Monroe announced their selection as an Annie Lowe Stiles grant recipient from the Community Foundation of North Louisiana at a press conference Tuesday.

 Through the grant funds, along with matching funds, the College of Business and Social Sciences has been able to create twenty $2,000 scholarships for students enrolled in the bachelor’s degree programs in Computer Information Systems and Computer Science, as well as the students enrolled in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program in Computer Information Systems.
